The City of Beaumont is considering proposed changes to BMT ZIP service designed to improve access to key destinations for riders, while also helping reduce operating costs.

At this time, no service changes have been approved or implemented. The proposal was presented to the Beaumont City Council during the August 4, 2026 budget workshop and will now move into the public participation process.

Monday through Friday

• 6 am thru – 9:30 pm

Saturdays

• 7:15 am thru – 9:30 pm

Special Transit Services (STS) runs concurrently to Fixed Route Buses.

1. The proposed route realignment will focus on the Magnolia, Pine, and Laurel/N. 11th routes. To the right, is a zoomed in picture of said routes. Details of the proposed realignment is located on the next page.

2. The proposed Saturday service modification is proposed to reduce operational hours on Saturdays only from 7:15am—9:30pm to 7am—6pm.

1. Combine the Magnolia and Pine Routes into one route called the Magnolia/Pine Route. The inbound route will turn left onto Magnolia Avenue and continue north. Hale Street will no longer be part of the route but is served on either Pine Street or Magnolia Avenue.

2. Extend the current Laurel/N. 11th Route west along Delaware Street to Dowlen Road, head northeast along Dowlen Road, then travel south along the Eastex Feeder Road to reconnect with the existing route near French Road.

• This route would be called the N. 11th/Dowlen Route.

These changes would give riders better access to jobs, grocery stores, shopping, dining, and entertainment. They would also create more opportunities to transfer between routes without having to travel all the way back downtown to the Dannenbaum Transfer Station.

For some riders, this could reduce a two-trip journey to one trip, saving time and making the system easier to use.

This plan is intended to improve the efficiency of the transit system while enhancing connectivity and focusing service during the times when it is used most

Magnolia, Pine, Laurel/N. 11th Route Realignment

Saturday Service Modification

• Reduce operational hours on Saturdays only from 7:15am—9:30pm to 7am—6pm.

The proposed changes will not affect the Special Transit Services (STS) provided by BMT Zip and will operate concurrently with the transit schedule adopted by the City Council. Annual recertification is required for all STS riders.

This proposal is tentatively scheduled to be considered by the City Council on September 22, 2026, at 5:30PM. The public hearing will be held in the City Council Chambers, 1st Floor of City Hall, 801 Main Street, Beaumont, Texas 77701.

A 30-day public comment period will give residents and riders an opportunity to review the proposed route realignment and service modifications and provide feedback before the City Council considers the proposal.
